Dr Dale Risius & daughter… the now, Dr Abby Bowers
History of Risius Family Veterinary Service
Risius Family Veterinary Service has been a family owned business in Eldridge, Iowa, from the first day we opened our doors. Dr. Dale Risius graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State in 1970. After graduation, he came to Eldridge to provide veterinary services to northern Scott County. On April 1, 1980, Dr. Risius opened his own practice, Risius Veterinary Service, at 112 East Le Claire Road in Eldridge. In 2007, Dr. Risius’ daughter, Dr. Abby Bowers (her name was Dr. Abby Risius at that time), and Dr. Joel Sullivan joined the practice after graduating from Iowa State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. In 2010, Drs. Bowers and Sullivan became partners with Dr. Risius. In 2013, Dr. Michael Slattery joined the practice at a new location in Maquoketa, Iowa. He then joined the ownership team as partner in 2015.
When Dr. Risius first opened the doors, he was the only veterinarian and with the support of his wife, Nan, and two support staff they began serving the North Scott area. Since that time, Risius Family Veterinary Service has grown to include two locations, our original Eldridge location and a satellite facility in Maquoketa, Iowa. We now employ 8 veterinarians, 14 full time support staff, and several part-time team members. We provide both companion animal and production animal services to clients in Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois.
We truly believe that our clients are the reason for our success and we enjoy serving you every day. We know you have a choice when it comes to your animal health needs and we thank you for choosing Risius Family Veterinary Service!
