Dr. Dale Risius


Dr. Dale Risuis has been a veterinarian in the North Scott Area since 1970 after graduating from Iowa State University. He started Risius Family Veterinary Service in the spring of 1980 and is still an owner and busy veterinarian. Dr. Dale is experienced in all aspects veterinary medicine but he really enjoys working with cattle and performing small animal surgery, especially orthopedic surgery.   Dr. Dale is a member of:

In his spare time, Dr. Dale enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, Jack, Will, Amelia, Miriam, Hannah and Cleo. He enjoys spending time with his wife Nan, traveling, golfing and serving at his church.

Dr. Abby Bowers


 Dr. Abby Bowers has been around the clinic since she was born. Her father, Dr. Dale Risius, started Risius Family Veterinary Service in 1980 and it has been a family owned practice ever since. Dr. Abby grew up in the North Scott area, attended Truman State University, and then Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2007 and moved back home to join the practice.

She became part owner of the practice in 2010. Dr. Abby loves being a veterinarian in her home town because she is able to get to know people and build relationships. She enjoys leading such a great staff and believes in educating clients so they can work as a team with our staff and veterinarians to improve the health and wellness of their pets. Dr. Abby has taken a special interest (and additional Continuing Education) in small animal dentistry. She has been instrumental in redesigning a portion of the clinic to offer improved dental treatment capabilities, including the addition of a dental x-ray unit.

Outside of work, Abby enjoys spending time with her family which includes her husband Mark, daughters Amelia, Cleo, Miriam, and Hannah, her golden retriever Lizzie, and her cat Stevie. She also enjoys cooking and being involved with the missions & outreach team at North Ridge Community Church.

Dr. Joel Sullivan


Dr. Joel Sullivan  originates from Woodbine, Iowa. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Northern Iowa. He then transferred to Iowa State University where he graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2007, which is the same year he joined Risius Family Veterinary Service.

He became a part owner of Risius Family Veterinary Service in 2010. Dr. Joel specializes in large animal medicine, specifically cow/calf herds and vaccination protocols.

He became a vet because he has always been involved in agriculture and this was a way to stay involved and to help protect America’s food supply. In Dr. Joel’s spare time you will find him playing taxi driver to his 3 children who are involved in numerous activities including: swimming, piano, football, and baseball.

Dr. Kim Lehman


Dr. Kim Lehman hails from the suburbs of Chicago. She attended Iowa State University, graduated in 2007 with her Bachelor’s in Animal Science, earned a Masters of Public Health in 2011, and then graduated in 2012 from Iowa State University Veterinary School with her Doctorate.  Dr. Kim is one of our mixed animal doctors, seeing both small animal medicine appointments and doing large animal production medicine. Dr. Kim enjoys working with a wide variety of animals including cats, dogs, cows, sheep, and goats. She volunteers a lot of her time to various associations, such as:

At home, Dr. Kim enjoys spending time with her husband, Levi, and their two sons, Jeremiah and Isiah. They all stay plenty busy on their hobby farm consisting of many animals including cats, dogs, chickens, ducks, and cows.

Dr. Skye Doerscher


Dr. Skye Doerscher has been in the veterinary field since starting as a vet assistant while in high school in Ohio.  She attended Manchester University in Indiana, and while there worked on dude ranches in Colorado during her summer breaks.  After graduating from college, she moved to Colorado where she spent time on ranches working with cattle and horses, and worked full-time in a nuclear chemistry lab.  She attended Colorado State University and graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2008.  Before entering practice, Dr. Skye worked for the USDA both in a beef plant (Joslin, IL) and as an marketing auditor.  In 2012, she joined Risius Family Veterinary Service as an associate. At the clinic, Dr. Skye specializes in small animal medicine. She is currently a member of:

When not at the clinic Dr. Skye enjoys spending time with her husband Darin and son Ben. She enjoys many things including gardening, kayaking, photography and genealogy.  Dr. Skye’s animal family includes dogs (Colo & Finn), cats (Chico & Rey), chickens, and a small beef cattle herd.

Dr. Collin Post




Dr. Collin Post grew up in Blue Grass, Iowa.  He went to the University of Iowa and graduated in 2013 with his bachelor’s degree in Biology.  He then transferred to Iowa State University Veterinary School, and graduated in 2017 with his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. He joined Risius Family Veterinary Service as an associate soon after graduation. Dr. Collin is one of our mixed animal doctors. He spends time doing both small animal clinical appointments, as well as large animal production medicine.  Dr. Collin’s professional interests include small animal surgery and internal medicine, large animal herd health (cattle, sheep and goats), and ensuring food safety from farm to plate. Outside of the hospital, Dr. Collin enjoys spending time with his wife Nicole and their new puppy Teddy. He likes hanging out with family and friends, traveling, golf and enjoys watching (boo!) Iowa sports
